Buying a Sydney Car Without Being in Sydney

Sydney's used car market is huge โ€” and buyers from all over Australia and overseas browse it regularly for specific models, JDM imports, and hard-to-find vehicles.

๐Ÿ™๏ธ
Melbourne

Found a better deal or specific model in Sydney? We inspect it for you.

โ˜€๏ธ
Brisbane

Sydney often has more stock at better prices. Remote inspection bridges the gap.

๐ŸŒŠ
Adelaide

Buying a Japanese import or specialist vehicle? Sydney has the largest selection.

๐ŸŒ
Overseas

New to Australia and buying remotely before arrival? We handle everything on-site.

๐Ÿ’ก
Did you know? Many interstate buyers find their ideal car in Sydney โ€” especially Japanese imports, LandCruisers, and European cars. A remote pre-purchase inspection costs a fraction of a flight and saves you from discovering problems after you've already paid and transported the car.

How a Remote Inspection Works

The process is almost identical to a regular inspection โ€” except you're not physically there.

1
Find the car online

Browse Carsales, Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, or a dealer website. Shortlist the vehicle and get the seller's address and VIN. Run a PPSR check on the VIN โ€” this you can do from anywhere.

2
Book an inspector in Sydney

Contact one of our trusted providers. Tell them it's a remote inspection, give the seller's Sydney address, and agree on a time with the seller. The inspector travels to the car.

3
Inspector attends โ€” you don't need to

The mechanic inspects the full vehicle at the seller's location โ€” 100+ points, OBD scan, test drive, and detailed photos of every issue found.

4
Full digital report delivered

Receive a complete written report with photos same day. Some providers also offer video walkaround. Use it to decide: buy, negotiate, or walk away โ€” all from wherever you are.

5
Buy & arrange transport

If you're happy with the report, pay the seller and arrange a vehicle transport company to deliver the car to your state. Interstate car transport typically costs $500โ€“$1,500 depending on distance.

๐Ÿ“ธ
Photo Documentation

Every issue is photographed. Rust, panel damage, fluid leaks, tyre wear, and fault code readings are all captured and included in the report.

๐Ÿ“น
Video Walkaround (Ask)

Some providers offer a video call or video report. Ask when booking if this is available โ€” it can be invaluable for remote buyers who want to see the car in motion.

๐Ÿ“ง
Same-Day Report Delivery

Reports are delivered digitally โ€” usually within a few hours of inspection completion. You'll have everything you need to make a decision the same day.

๐Ÿ“ž
Inspector Call Back

Ask if the inspector can call you after completing the inspection to walk through their findings verbally before the written report arrives.

All providers operate across Sydney and offer full digital reports suitable for interstate and overseas buyers.

Remote Inspection Questions

You coordinate directly with both the seller and the inspection provider remotely via phone or email. Agree on an inspection time with the seller, book the inspector for that time, give the inspector the seller's address, and the inspector handles the rest. The seller needs to be present (or at minimum provide access to the car), but you don't.
This is an even bigger red flag for a remote buyer than it is for a local one. If a seller refuses an independent inspection for someone who literally cannot see the car in person without travelling interstate, there is absolutely something they are hiding. Do not purchase. No legitimate seller will refuse this request.
Interstate vehicle transport in Australia typically costs $400โ€“$600 (Sydney to Melbourne), $700โ€“$1,000 (Sydney to Brisbane), $900โ€“$1,400 (Sydney to Adelaide), and $1,500โ€“$2,500+ (Sydney to Perth or Darwin). Get quotes from multiple transport companies. Factor this into your total budget when assessing whether buying interstate represents genuine value.
